In preparation for the upcoming meetings and as a departing point of discussion within the EEU network, the team chaired by Prof. Jo Ritzen and led by Dr. Cecile Hoareau has issued a draft report on the topic of “The State of University Policy for Progress in the EU”. This document has been sent on the 24th of May 2012 to EEU’s network of national correspondents, observers, and supporters involved in the assessing of European higher education.
The mentioned report presents a preliminary grading and the results yielded across university performance and economic output. Two methodologies are employed: a multidimensional, direct method and a factor analysis. Both are thoroughly described within the report. Though highly dependent on the indicators chosen, groups of countries scoring well are fairly consistent across both methodologies.
On the 6th of June 2012, a regional meeting within the framework of the Empower European Universities initiative will be hosted by the Central European University in Budapest. Soon afterwards, the annual EEU conference will take place in Maastricht on the 22nd/23rd of June.
The main purpose of these two meetings is the discussion and amendment of this draft report in accordance with EEU’s network of correspondents. This will be brought to a final form by incorporating the results of the conferences and published in the Fall of 2012.
